Where should we go?

Looks like our original plans of going into Mongolia have been swayed because of the Naadam festival from July 11th to the 13th. Although we've managed to find available trains to Ulaan Bataar from Hohhot in Inner Mongolia (all trains before the festival from Beijing are booked), finding available accomodations has been challenging.

Because of this, and the fact that we only have about 3 weeks left on our Chinese visa with no guarantee of a renewal in the east (and also because we're almost ready to move on from China), we have been throwing all our options up in the air. At the moment, we're thinking of flying through the east in a couple weeks and visiting Macau/HK for a bit. Then, we're thinking SEA until the fall when we go to India. All this decided in one night. I think the thought of rojak, durian, nasi lemak, asam laksa, mangosteens, etc ... have helped the decision a little too. :)

Any other suggestions?

I hear Toronto is a nice place this time of the year. Actually SEA might not be a bad idea, gives you an opportunity to visit mom and dad for a durian feast..........

If you guys end up in SEA, we are in Bali (between August 4th - 7th) and we'll be in Ipoh/Penang from August 7th to 22nd. Would be great if we can meet up if you guys happen to be in Malaysia.
I crave durian and can't wait to get some!!!

mmm... durian shakes... durian ice cream... durian shaved ice!!! how can you say no!!

not to mention... things are cheap if you're just bumming around! why not hit a beach for a week? surfing in thailand? help out a mangosteen farmer? hook up with a habitat for humanity group somewhere?

OMG so much to do, so little time... haha. have fun deciding!

Well, you've been to highest city, most eastern and northern town in china, you might as go visit Hai-nan island, the most southern province in china. I heard it has the most beautiful beaches comparable to hawaii!! and it's a lot more civilized than Kashgar and it's on the way to Malaysia. :P

Thank you all for the suggestions! Looks like we're still going to be playing it by ear but M'sia is pretty much a definite. The beach somewhere sounds quite enticing as well ... defn something to consider.

Evie, I'll e-mail you. Let's see if we can meet up, that would be fantastic!
